CAADPE is a statewide professional association of executive directors and administrators. A membership-elected Board of Directors guides the association. The board reviews policies, makes recommendations and takes positions on issues impacting the substance abuse field.

CAADPE sponsors professional education and training programs and conducts public education about the need for quality alcohol and other drug abuse services to meet community needs.

CAADPE's regional chapters meet to exchange information, review and formulate strategies on local issues and coordinates local response to statewide issues. Chapters currently operate in  Southern California (Los Angeles), Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area and are being developed in San Diego.
