Medication Assisted Therapy and Burprenorphine

Evidence has shown that the most effective treatment for people addicted to opioids is medication assisted therapy (MAT) combined with counseling services that address addiction and other behavioral issues. Burprenorphine, one such medication recently approved by the FDA, has shown to be a safer alternative to the traditional Methadone therapy.

Therefore, CAADPE has recently partnered with Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals and the Alcohol and Drug Policy Institute (the Medication Assisted Therapy Education Project [MAT]) in an effort to seek answers and provide education where there is lack of understanding and collaboration in this area of treatment.

Our goal for the project is to help AOD providers get ahead of the curve by understanding the current world of MAT and educating as to new options for treatment – in essence, to make as many treatment modalities available as possible and to promote access to these treatments. In order to best accomplish this, CAADPE is working on ways to strengthen relationships between AOD providers and physicians and providing avenues for educational resources.
